Although Mitsubishi was initially known for its heavy industrial machinery, it has evolved into a global automotive manufacturer. International brand Mitsubishi began as a shipbuilding company in the late 1800s. Nowdays the brand may not enjoy as much limelight as it has in the past. Despite now being part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Mitsubishi maintains its distinct identity and engineering philosophy.

Its current lineup consists of crossovers and economy cars, but there is also the coupe-like Eclipse Cross SUV. The Mitsubishi Mirage is simple and honest transportation but offers few frills, while Outlander and the Outlander Sport SUVs do much of the same on a larger scale. Affordable pricing and a reputation for reliability are Mitsubishi's remaining calling cards.

Like a steamy cup of coffee, three-row SUVS such as the Mitsubishi Outlander are how most Americans start their mornings. While its 181-hp four-cylinder and CVT won't get your heart beating, the seven-passenger Outlander does deliver a comfy interior with a smooth ride.

The 2023 Outlander won the Best Auto of 2023 award from company Money. Money also recognized the 2023 Mirage for Best Value among subcompact cars. Victory & Reseda named the Outlander “Vehicle of the Year” for 2023, a first-time award for the brand from this particular entity.

RepairPal, a statistics organization, ranks Mitsubishi sixth among 32 car brands for reliability. This import brand earns a four-out-of-five-star rating and costs $535 on average to repair. Mitsubishis visit the shop an average of 0.2 times annually.

While Mitsubishi may not command the same level of mainstream attention as it once did, it remains a reliable and practical choice for many consumers. The brand's focus on affordability and practicality has solidified its position in the automotive market.
